Composting Everything
From rabbit poo to goat poo to chicken poo and to all our scraps from inside, our compost is breaking down into awesome soil! It's like a cocktail pile outside. We rake up everything and it goes straight back into our yard. George even gets his shovel and takes our wheel barrel over to the neighbors, loads it up with horse manure. All this poop you may think is gross, but once broken down makes for the best 'free' nutritious soil. It feels good to use everything! I always have a bowl full of goodies on my counter to mix with our compost cocktail. The great thing about our free range chickens is they love to follow me over, I cluck a bit, and they run after me to scratch around in our compost. They love the bugs and veggies we put in. What is good about this is they are moving our pile around which helps the breakdown process. They also poop while working and help the soil even more! With a little attention to our compost by next year we will be able to use for next years garden. Eventually we will begin a new pile so this one can breakdown completely if we don't it can burn and kill the veggies we are planting in it.
